Bertha is an IT specialist, a high-flyer in everything in her life but love.

Dirk Bridle has just been released from prison after 8 years for good behavior. He has always maintained his story of falling asleep at the wheel and not drunk driving that caused the death of a teenager. While in prison, Dirk had an affair with a prison officer, Josh Cummings. Josh has been persistent in tracking down the person who mixed up the lab results in the case against Dirk while Dirk is hellbent on finding the dirty cops who he thinks framed him.

Tortu is a successful IT consultant, loves his job, and works hard. But then he is laid off and can't find another job. He loses his home, his dignity. He begs on the streets of Middlesbrough for months until his friend, Gary, saves him and gives him the money to go live with his uncle, Hugo, in Noyers, France. There he meets Lucas, a local farmer, himself transplanted to the country when his father hands him the keys to a farm. The two men fall in love. But things are not great, as Tortu, has to go home due to the immigration restrictions.
