Two immigrants living on the fringes of American society hit the road in search of the truth about a shared UFO abduction.

In Northeast China, Shenyang is a city decaying. Xu Lingling is a 25 year old girl suffering from uremia and her life has collapsed. In the height of her illness, her dissolute father has returned, with her best friend Tan Na and former classmate Zhao Dongyang, to take care of her. Though her life is suffering, facing the issues of family affection, love and friendship, she feels she still deserves to live. One day, Xu Lingling decided to for a trip, with Tan Na and Zhao Dongyang, they hit the road.

1976, Chongqing, 14-year old Dou was in hospital. He falls in love with a pretty nurse, Jiahui. Jiahui belongs to Gang, a mobster, who is brutal to her. Dou is becoming Jiahui’s protector, her Moonlight Warrior, but Jiahui and Gang leave for Japan. 20 years later, Jiahui returns to China, Dou recalls his childhood dream.

Although Dayao's farm is the only thing that matters to him - he lives there with his aging mother, Guei-Hua, and his wife - he travels to a nearby town with her every day to work. Pregnant, Tian-Tian insists on buying an apartment and raising their baby there, as the only way for them to escape poverty and for her to emancipate herself from men. When hundreds of tons of concrete fall on him at the construction site where he works, Dayao miraculously escapes... but loses his speech and his mind. He is now a five-year-old child.
