The main character, Anna Denisova, is a simple Russian woman, on whose shoulders all the hardships of wartime fell. Like all her compatriots, Annushka did everything in her power to bring Victory Day closer. In this war, she lost her husband, Pyotr, but managed to save the lives of her three children — Sasha, Nina and Granata. The trials of Annushka didn't end with the end of the war. In the first years of peace, all survivors had to survive the famine and spend their last strength on rebuilding the country.

The Maiden Spring choreographic ensemble goes on tour in the Volga cities. In love with the soloist of the ensemble Galina, the optician Volodya could not be among the passengers of the ship on which the artists sailed: on the occasion of the special flight, tickets for the ship were not sold. And then Volodya gets a job as an assistant cook in the galley (the only vacant place on the ship). A lot of adventures have befallen the new nutrition worker. The end of the 1940s. Test pilot Aleksei Kolchin was commissioned for the first time to fly the first Soviet jet fighter. The tests are successful, but it is necessary to improve the aircraft. When performing a test flight, Kolchin dies, his last words are recorded on tape. Having studied them, Kolchin's friend Sergei Sharov makes a new attempt and completes the test of the aircraft.

After learning that his brother Vazgen had died in his homeland during the Second World War, Gurgen Aramyan, who had been sent to an American orphanage during the bloody genocide of the Armenian people and remained in America, decided to travel to the Soviet Union in search of his children, Varazdat and Mariam. In the early days of the city's occupation, Vazgen joined the partisans. His wife was shot and killed by a German patrol. Varazdat and Mariam were left alone. They went to visit their neighbor, Uncle Stepan, who had recently escaped from a Soviet prison and was now afraid of both his own people and strangers.
