Different couples go to a hotel which has an special offer for staying over at the 31st of december 1999 in to the new millenium. The movie follows the different couples and their reasons to be in the hotel.

The story of a summer dress and those who have to do with it, especially the train conductor (played by van Warmerdam, the director). The dress functions as catalyst for the whimsical events, which turns out to be either tragic or hilarious.

Ronald Plasmeyer (Ruben Van Der Meer) is a small-time Amsterdam detective, struggling with financial problems because of his gambling habit.
