A tragicomic grotesque fantasy about the adventures of a drum and its owner in a country once called the Soviet Union.

Nikolai (played by Sergei Dontsov) has been fired from his job as a music teacher and has to live in the gym until he finds a place to stay. Finally, he gets a communal room in the apartment of Gorokhov (Victor Mikhalkov). The room's previous inhabitant, an old lady, has died a year ago, and yet her cat, Maxi, is still in the locked room, healthy and fat. Soon, Nikolai and his neighbours discover the mystery: there is a window to Paris in the room. That's when the comedy begins - will the Russians be able to cope with the temptation to profit from the discovery?

The protagonist finds out that some children were left behind in a sinking school, and is slowly driven mad as he tries to save them. A parable on the theme of the Last Judgment, numerous catastrophic events reveal a certain ambiguity in their origins, accompanied by the terrible suspicion that the things going on are some kind of a performance or theatrical production.

Having worked at a construction site all her life, Zina raised her son alone. Now that her son is almost an adult, Victor has appeared in her life, with whom she feels good and calm. However, her son Boris is too much used to having his mother belong only to him.

A seventeen-year-old nurse lives in a small provincial town, who is raised by a strict surgeon grandmother. One night, Lerka runs away from home and goes to Moscow in search of her mother. From that moment on, adventures begin in her life. The adventures are funny on the one hand, and instructive on the other. Arriving in Moscow, Lerka finds a very strange baby in her mother's house. It turns out that Mom was taken to the hospital, and six-year-old Deniska is none other than little Lerkin's brother. Deniska is a very unusual kid, smart beyond his years, but he doesn't talk at all. Two weeks spent in the capital, a difficult relationship with his brother, meeting new people completely change Lerkin's life.

The main characters of the film are residents of different places of this country, most common people, with whom most uncommon things, pure wonders, happen. Semyon and Lyuba, a family of fireguards, have a chance to fulfill a dream – to go to Moscow to take part in their favorite TV show “Field of Miracles” (“Pole Chudes”), where they should make a life choice “trophy or money?” An inexperienced officer of Patrol-Guard Service and at the same time an experienced loser Sanya will have to not only survive his first day of service but also to accept his wife’s labors and to reanimate his partner. Four newly acquainted fellows must by any means fly to Moscow in non-flying weather, and a couple of young lovers must reconcile their irreconcilable parents by some mysterious way. Valera has to decide on a dilemma: to save mankind from the Deluge or just to fly with his karaoke-alien-friends in their old UFO? All these things can happen only once a year – on December, 31!
