Contemplative and almost without dialogues, the film shows the routine of inhabitants in a city: a young woman who lives alone; an eldery that lives in the street, next to the river; a police officer; customers in a bar; two students. Little by little, through flashbacks, the plot connects these characters.

One day, maverick Naomi appears before inmate Yuri in a facility where mirrors are forbidden. The facility regulates the inmates' lives, but Naomi abides by her own rhythm. A mirror fragment gets passed around among the inmates, who each react differently when they take a peek, but Naomi remains expressionless.

A writer from Kamakura named Hiraoka Eisei is researching supernatural stories but finds himself revisiting memories from a previous visit to his wife’s home town. Ogura Kako,a shy local woman, is asked to help an actor from Tokyo practice speaking with Kyoto intonation and, after the lesson, he asks her to show him around Arashiyama.
