A young girl moves in with her estranged father, her new stepmother, and two teenaged stepsisters. Ellen soon discovers that her father and stepmother are hopeless alcoholics with a severe streak of violence.

Teenager Ellen moves in with her alcoholic father for what seems like the hundredth time, into a tiny trailer with his ex-wife, Hilly. Ellen soon discovers Hilly is still married to Roy, who was mentally disabled in a logging accident. Brokenhearted, Hilly refuses to see or hear anything about her husband, but Ellen can tell Roy is still lucid. So when her father skips town again, it falls to Ellen and her new boyfriend to rescue Roy and reunite Hilly with her true love.

The lines between past and present are mysteriously blurred when a successful real estate agent develops a strange fixation with a run-down, vacant house that was formally owned by an organized crime family. After he moves in, he is visited by a sexy ghost and begins to unravel the secrets of his former life in 1928... a past where passion and greed collide in the violent world of gangsters.
