English Lord Arthur Cavershoot is a passionate Napoleon scholar who badly neglects his wife Josephine for his obsession with the French emperor. When the cranky historian travels to a Napoleon conference in Paris, his smart spouse secretly follows him. A film for scatterbrains. Everyone's constantly forgetting something – the daughter the little dog, the father the files, the chauffeur forgetting to close the roof of his taxi when it's pouring rain and his passenger gets soaked. Everyone rushes through life and doesn't even have time for themselves. Then a "young" student (Hans Söhnker) returns to his hometown. He receives a lavish welcome and, at 34, is probably one of the oldest students in German film history. He has three fathers who support him financially and studies on their money. Interminably. Now he has to accept that his fathers have run out of money for his studies. So he rolls up his sleeves, forgets about the expensive degree, and switches to a trade. He does hair, he drives, he assembles film, he shaves, and he pins seams. There he meets a young lady, has time to serenade her, and then learns that his biological father is a millionaire, who now lends him a hand and distributes cash to the other cash-strapped fathers.

The two happy fitters Eddy and Tommy are doing overtime to ensure the great travel-exhibition of the department store they work in is ready for display. Outside, they see a poor newspaper seller, who looks longingly at the beautiful things in the display window. So they simply decide to smuggle the unfortunate inside and compete to win her favor by giving her gifts from the shelves of the department store. In their frenzy of happiness, they don’t notice that the girl is taking the fun little game for the truth. When she realizes that she has to give back the alleged gifts, she runs away.

Walter is in love with the 17-year-old Erika, but she raves for older, experienced men. When Walter and Erika visit his parents' estate after passing their exams, Erika shows increasing interest in Walter's father, Werner von Schlettow.
