Biography
Karl Kustav Kalkun (April 9, 1927 Tartu – February 21, 1990 Tallinn) was an Estonian actor. Karl Kalkun was born in Tartu as one of three children to. Karl Kalkun Sr., a stage manager of the Vanemuine theatre, and Emma Helene Kalkun (née Engelbär). He was the nephew of discus and hammer thrower Gustav Kalkun. In 1946, he graduated from secondary school at Tartu Secondary School No. 1 (now, the Hugo Treffner Gymnasium). In 1956 he graduated from Tartu State University's department of law. From 1951 until 1958, he worked at Vanemuine theatre. From 1958 until 1965, he worked at the Estonian Drama Theatre. From 1965 until 1978, he was employed at the at Estonian Youth Theatre. From 1978 until 1990, he worked at the Estonia Theatre. Besides theatre roles he played also in several films. Kalkun first married Estelle Piirand. The couple had one son, Andres. They later divorced. His second marriage was to Mare Kiisküla, with whom he had two sons, sports journalist Kristjan Kalkun and lawyer Kaarel Kalkun. The couple were still married at the time of his death. On 21 February 1990, Kalkun was at the Eesti Televisioon (ETV) studios in Tallinn during the filming of an interview and career and life retrospective with journalist and actress Anne Tuuling when he died of a heart attack, aged sixty-two.

The Last Relic
A medieval love story with lots of adventures. The times are troubled - there's a revolt of peasants going on. To secure its safety a monastery chases for a relics of a holy Brigitte. A nobleman promises to get it if he gets beautiful Agnes as a reward. But she fells in love with a handsome adventurer. The monastery has to act shrewd now and play double game.
Here We Are
On a nice summer day a funny little car rolls over a peaceful farm yard of Muhu island. The family that withdraws from the vehicle is quite odd-looking: an overbearing madam, a henpecked stammering husband and a mystical red-head. They announce that they want to spend their vacation in the farm ... "We are from capital, we will pay". This quiet vacation turns out to be a frantic day with romance, unexpected turns and fisticuffs between suitors.

Laulu sõber
Tõnu, student of agronomy, is a trainee at a flourishing collective farm. He finds out that there are many talented singers there among whom there is Malle with a specially beautiful voice. However, the local community club is closed and the singing ground has been turned into a pasture. Malle's father is the manager of the collective farm and considers singing a waste of time. When the collective farmers hear about Tõnu's conducting skills, they will act against the manager's will. The big song festival is going to be held soon and people want to go there. Preparations of the choir go well; however, the manager of the collective farm gives no permission to take part in the festival. Singers are losing their hope, but then comes a helping hand.
Flamingo: The Bird of Luck
A teenage boy named Vahur, who is from a seemingly upstanding family, becomes an accomplice to the vicious assault on an elderly man. Through a look into the boy's childhood and family, this film raises the question of how to become and remain a decent human being in the schizophrenic Soviet society where everyone was equal, but some were more equal than others.
