A girl develops a psychological complex after witnessing her mother giving birth to her second child, leading her to reject marriage and suffer from nervous breakdowns. During her treatment, she falls in love with her treating physician, but he doesn't reciprocate her feelings openly due to a problem he's had.
A lonely schoolteacher in Alexandria, she has a hearing impairment and wears a hearing aid asking to be assigned to Cairo, where no one knows her illness. She got to know Magdy and loved him, and had to tell him her secret, who showed no interest in her hearing impairment. Set in the suburbs of Cairo in the late 1930s, the story follows a middle-class Egyptian family grappling with the hardships of life after the death of their father, their sole breadwinner. Mounir thus decides to seek help from a prominent - albeit sexually frustrated - psychiatrist (Abdel Moneim Madbouly).
