Sabaté lives in exile in France, but since the end of the Spanish Civil War he has never stopped making forays into Spain in an attempt to overthrow fascism in the only way he knows and considers effective: direct action. This journey, structured like a road-movie with a hint of western, highlights the fears of four characters and Sabaté, their past, their regrets and questions about their cause and the violence, uncovering the ghosts of the past of all these characters in a fast-paced adventure where both sides show that they are fine adversaries.

After a robbery at a bingo hall, Azucena, the girlfriend of one of the thieves, decides to seize the money for herself. On the run she stumbles upon Verónica, the manager of a nursing home that wants a cut in exchange of helping her to evade the criminals and the cops.

After the end of the Spanish Civil War, General Antonio Escobar Huerta stoically awaits his execution, accused of military treason and sentenced to death for having sworn allegiance to the Republic. Despite being a man of deep religious convictions, Antonio Escobar decided to make an oath honoring the legally constituted government of the Second Spanish Republic against the military uprising led by Francisco Franco and supported by the Catholic Church. While waiting for his execution in prison, he recalls the beginning of the Civil War, the years of battles during which he ascended to the rank of General, and his own decisions, of which he has no regrets. With a clear conscience, Escobar waits his own execution with the calm of those who know they have done their duty.
