Acting
Juan Luis Acevedo is a bilingual theater, film, and television actor with over three decades of experience in the performing arts. His training began at the University of Puerto Rico, where he earned his BA in Drama. It was there that he also took his first steps in the audiovisual field, working in advertising, radio, and soap operas. In 1996, he moved to the United States after receiving a grant from Brandeis University, where he earned his MFA in Acting . That summer, he made his professional English debut with CSC in the production of William Shakespeare's "As You Like It." After working for eight years in Boston, he decided to move to New York City, where he continued his training with his mentor, William Esper, with whom he studied the Meisner Technique. In the audiovisual field, he ventured into television, appearing in the series "Damages," "Law & Order: SVU," "The Blacklist," and more. His film work includes short films such as “Beauty Parlor Census” and feature films such as “Kiss Of The Damned.” In the theater field, he has had the privilege of working and in some cases continuing to collaborate with directors such as Mariano de Paco Serrano, Dean Zayas, Estelle Parsons, José Luis Valenzuela, Rebecca Aparicio and with producers such as Teatro Círculo, Fuerzafest NYC, INTAR, Iati Theatre, GALA Hispanic and Repertorio Español. The titles of some of these projects include "Yerma", "El Caballero del Milagro", "Jardín Salvaje", "Night Over Taos", "El Caballero de Olmedo", "Tierra del Fuego", "Destiny of Desire", "Wonder Queers", "Fuente Ovejuna" a play with which he debuted in Madrid at the Corral de Cervantes. Throughout his career, he has participated in several festivals, including the Almagro Festival and the Ibero-American Golden Age Festival in Alcalá de Henares, where he presented his one-man show "Experiencias Clásicas." In NYC, his Buchwald representatives have helped him secure countless advertising campaigns on camera, radio, and print. In terms of recognition, his performances have been nominated and awarded Best Actor by the Broadway World Awards, HOLA (Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors), ACE (Association of Entertainment Journalists), ATI (Independent Theater Actors), LATA (Latin Alternative Theatre Awards), Talía New York, and Premio Arte Internacional. Juan Luis is an acting coach, director, and member of the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Radio Artists and the Actors Equity Association.
