Television adaptation of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night

It is the war year of 1658, and the winter in February is so harsh that the belts are frozen. The Swedish King Charles X Gustav, who has arrived in Germany, is now staying in Jutland. He and his army can cross the straits and continue on toward Copenhagen. Svend Gønge is given a particularly difficult task by Frederick III: 50,000 rigsdaler belonging to the king must be brought from Vordingborg Church to Copenhagen.

When the Swedes occupy a Danish manor house, Svend Poulsen decides to help the family to safety. Along the way, Ib is taken prisoner. Svend Poulsen and his gang pretend to be a platoon of Swedish soldiers arriving at the castle where Ib is chained to the roof. During dinner that evening, the Swedish commander becomes suspicious, and soon the soldiers are fighting each other. However, Svend manages to free Ib.

A group of better-off thirty-somethings meet for a weekend in Knud and Beth's home. The host couple is prone to bickering regularly. The married couples (Jan and Ilse, and Kjeld and Tove) that are visiting understand and try to stay out of the way. Bachelor Lars, however, comes into his own and is a constant source of provocative comments.

Outside the large hotel, there is a lot of activity. It is teeming with foreigners, buses arrive and depart, and indoors the air is filled with foreign languages. But if you look more closely, you will discover that the doorman, hotel porter, waitresses, and waiters are not "real" hotel staff at all, but just students who take on extra jobs in the summer to earn money for their studies and who live in the "hotel" themselves in the winter, which is actually a student dormitory called "Egmont."

A portrayal of two modern young men and their experiences of love. Jack, a sociology student, is in a relationship with Betty, who is somewhat older than him. It develops into a passionate love affair, but in the long run, the age difference and especially Betty's upper-class background weigh too heavily. Jack's friend, the cynical journalist Hugo, has casual relationships with several girls until he falls in love with the model Ruth. However, she returns to her husband, and when Hugo later has his face disfigured in a car accident, he ends up committing suicide. Before doing so, he tells Jack that he and several others have also had relationships with Betty.

In this Danish suspense film, the foibles of the psychological helping professions are wryly surveyed. A woman has murdered her husband. That's clear enough. Now the woman is in a psychiatric hospital because it seemed clear to the judges that she was not fully competent. Her doctor, who is helping her a great deal, has problems of his own. First, he is against the cookie-cutter treatment practices of his hospital, second, he is on shaky mental ground himself. Then he violates his therapeutic ethics by carrying on an affair with the woman he is treating.
