Jaya Bachchan (née Bhaduri; born April 9, 1948) is an Indian actress and politician. Celebrated for her work in Hindi and Bengali films since her teenage debut in 1963, she has won eight Filmfare Awards and the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour awarded by the Government of India. Regarded as one of the most celebrated actresses of Indian cinema, she was one of the highest paid actresses of the 1970s. She also serves as member of the parliament in the Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party since 2004.
