But the husband used his illness to cover up his antics. Mrs. Sluková was doing a crossword puzzle and was looking for the word "seductress at six". She asked her husband to go borrow Mr. Slavík's crossword dictionary. Then Mr. Slavík's door slams shut, his pot of water overflows, and the gas goes out...
A boy dreams of winning an ice hockey game. Meanwhile, a professional hockey star moves into the neighborhood, offering his services as a goalkeeper--leading two rival teams of Prague schoolboys, The Little Lions and The Devil Street Boys, to fall over themselves in order to gain his favor. The goalie's son, basking in his father's glory, is asked to replace a member of the Lions team, prompting the usual boyish rivalries and battles. Some of the Lions players are so preoccupied with the impending "big game" that their schoolwork suffers, to the chagrin of their teachers and parents.
A mix-up of names and people causes initial confusion with the moving of a very bulky musical instrument, which – together with the recently broken elevator – provokes the residents of an ordinary apartment building to unprecedented activity. It gives the young people an opportunity to make a postponed date, it teaches a joker a lesson, it gives quarrelsome neighbors an excuse to unleash passionate exchanges of opinions... Only Mrs. Careful and her charming Chikita cause trouble and grief – both lose their grooms in their own way.
