This short drama is a portrait of Nova Scotian journalist and politician Joseph Howe (1804-1873) and his battle for freedom of press. When, in 1835, Howe was accused of seditious libel, no lawyer dared defend him. Choosing to defend himself, he addressed the jury for over 6 hours, urging jurors to leave an unshackled press as a legacy to their children. Though the judge instructed the jury to find Howe guilty, jurors took only 10 minutes to acquit him - a landmark event in the evolution of press freedom in Canada.

Three farmers in Cypress Corners discover that farm life is not so simple. Discovering a hidden door in the earth, they break through it, discovering they are not on Earth, but in a giant Noah's Ark-like spaceship. The spaceship is made up of giant "domes" holding the various cultures of humanity. Eventually, they find the bridge, its crew dead and its computer complaining that the ship is off-course, heading into the path of a distant sun. The three farmers take it upon themselves to travel the ship, contacting the various cultures of humanity in search of somebody who can correct the course of the ship and save mankind.

Lizette, a waitress in a donut shop in small town has a milestone birthday coming up that she's not happy about. The only thing that could make it better is if her husband Terry buys her tickets to a Dan Hill concert in Toronto she wants to see. The problem is he will only go if his friend Simon goes and only if Simon has a date. The only person Lizette can find is Cheryl-Ann, a permanently happy, innocent waitress at the same donut shop, whom Lizette can't stand. When the night finally comes, things don't go as planned.
