Jahar Ganguly (October 1904 – 1969) was an Indian actor and theater personality. He received the Best Actor award in the 6th Annual Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards in 1943 for his performance in Bandi. Ganguly was born in undivided 24 Parganas Dist., British India. He worked in several Bengali and Hindi films in the 40s and 50s as a supporting actor in comedy counterparts to the dramatic lead. He got a breakthrough in Dena Paona directed by Premankur Atorthy. Ganguly acted under Satyajit Ray's direction in Parash Pathar and Chiriyakhana.[2] He also performed as a stage actor until 1960.

Kamona is a Bengali drama film directed by Nabendu Sundar. This movie was released on 4 March 1949 under the banner of Kirti Pictures. This is the second film of Bengali actor Uttam Kumar after Drishtidan and his debut as the leading person crediting him as Uttam Chatterjee instead of Arun Kumar Chatterjee.

Manik is mentally and physically abused by the manager of the orphanage he lives in. However, when he runs away to Calcutta, he finds himself in deeper trouble in a far more dangerous world.

Shudhu Ekti Bachhar is a romantic comedy that is based on a comical situation which finds the female protagonist having to marry a complete stranger according to her father's will. The stranger she is to be married is a funny boy whom she is at cross ends with. The story goes on with this baseline, that they agree to stay married for a year and the comedy rolls on there forth. There are many quarrels, misunderstandings and childlike fights, which all add to the comical content of the movie. All characters add life to the story with hilarious punch-lines and comical episodes. And in the end the two main leads falling in love with each other and living happily ever after.

Swarupa, an introvert, fails to express her love to Kushal, who falls for Nabola, a rich and beautiful woman. However, things take a sharp turn when greedy Nabola leaves him for a wealthier man.

The widower land-lord fixes his wayward step-brother's alliance with priest's daughter. Groom disappears on wedding day, and he is forced to marry her. The brother comes back and when the elder brother dies, tries to dispossess the widow.


Dena Paona is a dramatic exploration of societal pressures and personal redemption. The film follows Sorashi, a strong-willed temple priestess, as she confronts the challenges of a troubled marriage and a disapproving community. Her journey towards self-discovery and reconciliation with her husband forms the heart of this compelling story.

A comedy adapted from a successful play. The zamindar Damodar Chakraborty (Chakraborty) starts a school named after his wife and recruits a married couple as teachers. Manas (Ganguly in the role which had made him a stage star) and Niharika (Kanan Devi) pretend to be married in order to get the jobs. Their imposture, together with the fact that he is Hindu while she is Christian, produces complications.
