The Bread Peddler is a 1923 French silent drama film directed by René Le Somptier and starring Suzanne Desprès, Gabriel Signoret and Geneviève Félix. It is based on Xavier de Montépin's novel of the same title.

An earlier version of the 18th century swashbuckling story later made as a vehicle for Gerard Philipe, this one is in serial format.

Eugenie Grandet has discovered where her father, a miserable old miser, keeps his treasure. Eugenie's cousin, Charles, is the bearer of a letter from his father to his uncle, Eugenie's father. The letter informs the miser that Charles' father, his only brother, is reduced to a state of utter ruin, and unless he can obtain immediate help, he contemplates suicide.

This film depicts the Biblical scenes when Joseph is sold by his brothers and taken to Egypt, where he finally landed in jail. He explains to his fellow-prisoners their dreams saying one will go free while the other will hang. His predictions come true. the King has some dreams which he wanted to have explained, and he had Joseph brought before him. Joseph explained his dreams and was made Governor.
