The film was inspired by one of the most important documentaries shot by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Talking Heads (1980). The director asked his interlocutors seemingly simple questions, such as “Who are you?” and “What do you want?”.

At 40, Zosia has a happy second marriage, a well-adjusted daughter, a good career, and a comfortable home in Warsaw. But as she and her family usher in the year 2000, she wishes some things in her youth had happened differently, and she's magically transported back to 1987, when she was still married to her womanizing first husband, Darek and lived in the People's Republic of Poland.

Based on true events, the movie tells the story of two men who want to start a scooter business but don't have the required collateral for a bank loan. Then one of them runs into a former flat neighbour who offers to lend them the money. The guy turns out to be a thug and starts to extort them. Their life goes downhill from there.

The protagonist of the story is Rysiek, who, after serving a prison sentence in the Nysa Penitentiary, returns to his hometown with the intention of starting a new life. He wants to run the farm taken over from his deceased parents and win back his ex-girlfriend, Agata, who, in his absence, married his older brother, Jarek. The situation is further complicated by the person of Tadek. As it turns out, Rysiek and Tadek are not only connected by former criminal activity, but also by Agata...
