First love, first nude experience, first self-made theatre performance of "Romeo and Juliet". A look at the east-German youth in the late seventies.


The Kazakh shepherd Bair finds a fabulous treasure in the steppe: a stone pot that doubles everything you put in it. Bair is a poor man without rights who has been cheated by the rich cattle herder Galzan and robbed of his wages. Now he sees an opportunity to make himself and his friends happy with this pot. But the greedy Galzan manages to take possession of the pot with cunning and trickery. The shepherd must now summon up a great deal of courage and cleverness to outwit him...

Winter 1968. Historian Dr. Dallow is released from prison. He is still trying to cope with and understand why he was put behind bars for 21 months for defamation of the state. His supposed "crime:" for five minutes he accompanied a cabaret chanson on the piano. The film shows what "ordinary socialism" was like, letting the audience feel the threat under which the people in the GDR had to live over many years.

Ten-year-old Ole is full of mischief. He attempts to fly and is hospitalized with a broken leg. When he sees a Sherlock Holmes movie on TV, however, he forgets about the pains and comes up with a new plan. Disguised as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, he and his friend Andreas start searching for criminals. Soon, the two boys detect their first case. On the street they meet a man wearing a stuck-on beard. The hobby detectives find this very suspicious and decide to follow him.
The 20-year-old Berliner Wilhelm, called Willi, returns from two years as a prisoner of war to the village of Weltzow in the Havel region, where he meets Hans Graber, a former comrade from the front. Hans is now a teacher and finds Willi a job with innkeeper Brunzel. His daughter, Mrs. Leidenfrost, has been a widow for five years, as her husband was killed at the front. Over time, she begins to take a liking to Willi, but Willi is not aware of this. He is interested in the dressmaker Ulla, but skips their first meeting when he learns in the inn that Ulla has an illegitimate child.

Adam Neumann is a member of a Jewish family living in Berlin. His grandfather, who has Alzheimer, is the head of this family and he had to leave the business because of his condition. The old man says that Adam is the reincarnation of a messiah and this unwelcome ideas start to bother the family. Adam becomes increasingly paranoid and gradually embarks on a spiritual quest, questioning his own reality. By accident or perhaps by chance, he reaches the beaches of Tulum, encountering the natural beauty of a place that will change his destiny.

Susanne and Christian get to know each other during a wonderful week in summer - and fall in love. This, however, leads to conflicts: up to now, Susanne has been living with Wolfgang, a biologist. This shared life was harmonious and based on mutual trust. Wolfgang is not only resolute and in full command of social situations; he has also always been the stabilizing force in the relationship. This is precisely why Susanne now feels drawn to the unsettled, unsteady and frivolous Christian, the complete opposite of the calm, well-balanced Wolfgang. And Christian, working as a shift boss on a natural gas derrick, has become more aware of his personal and social responsibilities as a result of loving Susanne.

After a breakdown, Rita returns to her childhood village in 1961. As she recovers, she remembers the past two years: her love for the chemist Manfred, ten years her senior; how his enthusiasm about his new chemical process turned to bitter disappointment in the face of official rejection; how he escaped to West Berlin a few weeks before the Wall was built and hoped that she would follow him …

Orphaned Julius flees bombed Berlin and meets freed communist Kaiser. Together they rescue a starving circus horse and join a Soviet‐run traveling show featuring a hungry lion. After adventures defending the horse with local girl Ulrike, the pair head back to Berlin.
