Every year, many Germans are preparing to spend their vacations in the sunny south. And they all have to use the same highways. And every year everything ends in a big traffic jam.

Thomas Arslan's second feature film and part of his Berlin trilogy is a slow-paced milieu study of German-Turkish youth in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The film depicts the everyday life, domestic conflicts, dreams, and disappointments of three siblings and their aimless, meandering strolls through the Kreuzberg district.

After his father committed suicide, Richard decides to stay in a youth center rather than staying with his mother. There, he finds a bizarre bunch of teenagers. Each of them experienced pain from early on, having their own desires and fighting for happiness with peculiar humor and fantasy. Richard doesn’t want to get involved with any of this – if it weren’t for her: Kyra.
A right-wing radical, who is not quite aware that he is one, goes around with his buddies beating people up and taking part in scene events. Things look bad at home. His mother is in the hospital because her husband beat her up. The drunken father has long since brought in a replacement, a homeless woman. The teenager lives in eternal stress with the alcoholic, but gains respect from his father through his right-wing radical friends. From now on, his home becomes the main meeting place of the clique. When one of the antisocial outings of the clique ends fatally for one of the victims, the father offers his son and his friends first an alibi, later a hiding place..

Eva Simon is actually a woman who can not be shaken by anything: Together with the family of her son Theo, she lives contentedly on a former farm in the picturesque Rheingau, where she practically does the housework on her own and takes care of her grandchildren Lilli and Nico, while Theo and his wife Marlene pursue their professions. But that the young, fun-loving photographer Jonathan Wolf is now moving into a side building of the courtyard and setting up his studio precisely where Eva once ran her beloved cabaret - that's too much for the self-confident woman in her mid-fifties.

Kati leaves her hometown - a small provincetown in northwestern Germany - to live in the city of Hamburg. Being about 18 years old she has just finished school and seeks her freedom away from home. She knows she loves women but never dared to live accordingly. In Hamburg she soon finds a lover and a good friend, too, and the strength to face the narrow-minded people at home. After struggling with it for some time she returns for a visit to tell at least her mother and best friend.

On the last day of the Munich Oktoberfest, the paths of different people cross: While Birgit questions her marriage to Max, single father Richard is caught in a conflict between his young lover and paternal responsibility - his son, whom he only sees very rarely, has been looking forward to an evening with him; but Richard also needs to talk things out with his young love. Meanwhile, some crazy Italians come to Munich. Alessandro falls in love with a newly married Japanese woman. A traditional showman's family fights against ruin and an embittered young wheelchair user who keeps the officers at the local police station in suspense with hidden threats...

He's handsome and poor, she's rich and plump: can that work in the long run? Miriam meets Kai, a student, in a car accident. The chubby daughter from a good family and the handsome have-not fall in love. Her friends are horrified. Will the two make it anyway?
Magdalena has to wash glasses at her own graduation ball. Rudi, who is in love with her, has to endure the presence of her boyfriend Julian. Julian doesn't have to do anything, but lets his mother look after him. They are united by one wish: To find their own path in life - not an easy task when, firstly, there is no guidance and, secondly, the dear family with all its lived compromises, lost ideals and a good dose of resignation stands in the way.
