Helen Ann Richardson Khan (born October 22, 1939), known by her mononym Helen, is an Indian former actress and dancer of Anglo-Indian and Burmese descent. In a career spanning 70 years, she has established herself as a prolific performer in Hindi cinema and appeared in over 1000 films. During her heydays, she was cited as one of the most popular nautch and cabaret dancers, and has been a recipient of two Filmfare Awards and a Padma Shri, awarded by the Indian Government. She has also been the inspiration for four films and a book. She even performed onstage in London, Paris, and Hong Kong. Officially announcing retirement in 1983, she has since been appearing in films as guest roles or cameos.

Inspector Shankar (Biswajeet) is assigned to investigate the mysterious death of Sunder Singh (Sujit Kumar). During this process, he meets a beautiful young and rich heiress named Sheil (Mala Sinha), who has an impaired memory, and is being looked after by Sunder Singh's aunt (Nirupa Roy). He falls in love with Sheila. Sheila confides in Shankar that she thinks she is haunted by a scarred-faced man. As the investigation progresses, Shankar gets the feeling that the results will change their lives forever.

A ruthless gangster named Don is killed during a scuffle with the police. Since only DSP D'Silva knows of this incident, he recruits Vijay, who is a spitting image of Don, to replace the original Don and infiltrate his gang. D'Silva plans to nab the entire gang, but when he dies during a raid, the secret that Vijay is not Don is also buried with him.

Calcutta-based Naval Officer Shankar Choudhry lives a wealthy lifestyle with his doctor dad, and mom. One day while returning home in a cab home from a Club, he comes an injured man, Shekhar, takes him home, has his dad nurse look after him, as well as goes to his home to notify his sister, Neela. Both Neela and he fall in love with each other. When Shekhar recovers, he returns home, and it is then that Shankar notices a change in Neela. When he questions her, she refuses to answer. Then Shekhar is shot and killed in his apartment. A Police Dectective Officer assigned to this homicide - has a lighter with the word 'S' engraved on it. This leads him to suspect three persons: One is a gangster named Shyam Sunder, second a delinquent runaway child, Sushil Kumar alias Daaku, who lives with his maternal uncle and aunt; and the third is none other than Shankar Choudhry himself.

Story of Anuradha who is an alcoholic

Raja Saheb (Ashok Kumar) is a rich man, strict father to sons Virendra (Sunil Dutt) and Mahendra. One day, Mahendra has a big fight with his father and dies of shock afterwards. Virendra leaves home and falls in bad company with Pran. Later, Virendra falls in love with a poor girl (Nutan), eventually deciding to marry her. At home, a lonely Raja Saheb falls ill. When Virendra tells his father about his love, his father reveals his own past: He was in love with a poor girl, who died leaving a daughter (Padmini) behind, who dances on the roads to earn a living. Virendra decides to bring his sister home.

Rivalry has existed between Ranimaa and a small and hostile community. The passage of time has only widened the gap between the two. When Ranimaa's heir apparent, Seema, attempts to make peace, she is severely reprimanded by Ranimaa. Then Seema meets with Ajay Jain and both fall in love. When Ranimaa finds out about this, she indicates her disapproval of Ajay. Seema, however, is adamant about this, and will only marry Ajay, and wants peace between the two communities. Finally, Ranimaa agrees to make peace with the tribe, only to be blackmailed by Manghu, who knows that Ranimaa's had a questionable past, a past so terrible that she will kill anyone who will dare to reveal it.

The city is rocked by a serial killer who only kills young women at night, so women don't want to step outside the house when it turns dark.

Young Deepa, who works as a housemaid in the house of a wealthy family, is molested by the drunken son and a friend, but Deepa manages to escape. The son informs the police to discredit her, she is arrested, found guilty and sentenced to prison. When she is released, she is a different person altogether, cold, calculating, and a career thief. She works for gangster Shambhu Dada and steals and picks pockets. She is arrested by the police again, and this time sentenced to a year in prison. Judge Sinha, who sentenced her, would like to give her another chance at improving herself, and asks her to come and live with him and his family, which she does. After several misunderstandings and quarrels, things go well, until Judge Sinha's son, Kishore, returns home from hostel - and Deepa recognizes him as one of the young men who had molested her, and changed her life forever.
