Fourteen-year-old Kathi Lehner has been growing up with her father Robert and grandmother Hedwig since the death of her mother. Her neighbor is the elderly coachman Butzbichler and his horse Dublin. When Butzbichler has to go to the hospital after a traffic accident, Dublin is to be slaughtered. Kathi and her grandmother decide to buy the horse. They find a new home for the four-legged friend - at least until they can sell Dublin again. But then everything turns out quite differently.

Mr. Schmidinger, a Bavarian from Texas, inherits a hotel from his stepbrother in Heidelberg. He checks in incognito and soon realizes that he is in a brothel. The American, horrified and utterly shocked, dismisses the staff and girls in order to turn the dirty inheritance into a clean hotel, but then the protectors spring into action.

'Love and the First Railway' is what this movie's title would mean in English. This is one of those films that depicts fictional characters participating in an historic incident. The actual first railway was built in England, of course. But according to this movie, the first railway (in Germany, at least) was built from Berlin to Potsdam, in 1838. I haven't the faintest idea if that's correct, but the people who made this movie do seem to take a great deal of interest in historical accuracy, so I'll take their word for it. Anyway, a title at the beginning establishes that this movie is set in 1838.
A Bavarian baron has invited his three illegitimate children to come on a visit. Suddenly, happiness can be seen in this house only recently cut off from the rest of the world. The baron is happy. When two of the children have to leave because of their duties back home, only the daughter stays behind, determined to cure the baron of his quirks.
