A love story or a tale of the resistance, this poignant movie tells both the haunting story of a French resistance cell in Lyon but also the love of Lucie Aubrac for her husband...

The movie depicts the events from July until September of 1914 which led to the defeat of the German troops at the Marne. While Sebastian Haffner explains and comments on operations and decisions on the basis of situation maps, key scenes are depicted by actors. A main focus is thereby placed by Haffner onto the controversial mission of lieutenant-colonel Richard Hentsch who is said to have, during a war patrol to the various army high commands, contributed to the abortion of the operations significantly.

A grieving king seeks a new wife as beautiful as his late queen. Hunters present three candidates, but the chosen princess demands impossible gowns (sun, moon, stars) and a coat of many furs. She flees in the fur cloak, works in the palace kitchen under the name Allerleirauh, and secretly attends royal festivities in her enchanted dresses, leaving behind a ring and spindle as clues. Gold rush in the Salzburg mountains: After hearing rumours of new gold discoveries, the penniless Jakob Hirzbacher and his son Andris move to a village in the Hohe Tauern in the hope of finding work there. But there is no gold to be found in Gaisbach. The newcomers are met with great hostility by the village population and can only find refuge in a barracks camp in the forest, where like-minded migrant workers wash gold in the rivers. Jakob finds employment with the beautiful Katharina Radacher, whose family used to dominate the gold mining industry in the region. He falls in love with Katharina, who is fighting against ruin and is forced to sell her mining rights by the corrupt mining councillor Hubert von Feileis. When Feileis realises that Jakob is standing in the way of his negotiations with Katharina, he has him chased out of the village in a devious manner.
