The true story, little known until now, of Elena Colombo, a Jewish girl from Turin who, in 1943, was separated from her parents at the age of 10 and deported alone to Auschwitz: the only documented case in the entire Italian Shoah. Inspired by Giampaolo Pansa's controversial book, the film traces the story of a family torn apart by political divisions at the end of the Second World War: a son joined the partisan brigades and a daughter, instead, joined the militia of the Republic of Salò.
