Santoso signs an agreement with Ghozal, a bandit, to blow up his own factory in order to get compensation from his insurance. The plan fails when Ghozal enters the factory and the security alarm rings. The security guards act promptly but Ghozal manages to escape. The pursuit of Ghozal becomes the core of the drama. As a copycat genre film, Ghozal even hijacks a helicopter and acts like a terrorist by finding hostages in a hospital. In the end, he is besieged by the police. A long negotiation occurs before he is killed.

Even though he is not a "left wing" student, Nurhadi, nicknamed Hadi, insists on becoming a volunteer in the fight against Malaysia. Wati, his lover, tries to stop him, but fails. She pretends to be pregnant so that Hadi marries her. But Hadi still goes to Malaysia. Ratmono is attracted to a Gandrung Banyuwangi (a traditional dance from Banyuwangi area) dancer and he intends to divorce his wife. His intention to marry the dancer costs him his wealth and drives him into poverty. He ends up hanging himself. This incites the hatred of the villagers against the voodoo shaman and they decide to chase away all shamans. But a Muslim minister (Ustad), Sutar, prevents them from doing so. Soon, the village is gripped by a series of killings of those considered to be voodoo shamans. They start suspecting the religious figures (Kiai) but the murders are committed by several men in black, with their faces covered like ninjas. The minister is also threatened by anonymous phone calls and is even attacked. Then the authorities release a statement that there are no ninjas. The murders remain a mystery. Symbolically, it ends with a little boy carrying the national flag with his friends.

A vengeance-seeking spirit possesses the elderly Rusmini. When she catches a man trying to rape her grand daughter, the “Nenek Lampir” (possessed granny) kills the rapist by sucking blood from his neck. A journalist investigates the case as more bodies pile up.
