Martha is locked up in a mental hospital by her own husband, who covets her fortune. At some point, however, with the help of her husband's brother, who studied medicine abroad, she escapes and returns home to see her daughter. This creates friction and coldness between the two brothers, resulting in the doctor who showed her genuine affection packing his bags and leaving Greece.

The film tells the tale of three men, who have murdered the rich mother-in-law of one of them and four members of her family in order to steal her fortune. An unemployed man decides to kill his mother-in-law in order to take her property. But when, with the help of two accomplices, he sets fire to her house, his wife and their two children will die with her.

A young woman who lost her husband five years ago to a naval tragedy in the seas of Indochina does not say to lose her hope. He always lives with the remembrance of his form and with the certainty that he will once come back alive and she will reassert him in her arms.

A former teacher, Alexis Vergis, agrees to give private lessons to the young son of a wealthy family, but quickly realizes that the real reason he was hired is to help Anna, the boy's sister, who has suffered a nervous breakdown after the death of her fiancé. With kindness and methodicalness, he tries to lift the girl's spirits. Walks in the countryside and conversations about happy and carefree topics help her to relax somewhat. However, Anna's stepmother is disturbed by the relationship developing between the two young people, because she actually intends to have Anna committed to a mental institution and inherit her husband's fortune. She tries to slander Alexis and partly succeeds, but in the end, the truth shines through and the love of the two young people triumphs.
