Stefan is a passionate family man and photographer. Together with his wife Marion, a graphic designer, he manages life with their three children in the big city.

Vienna, Austria, 1912. The brilliant painter Oskar Kokoschka, considered one of the main representatives of the expressionist movement, has a tumultuous relationship, both professional and romantic, with the composer Alma Mahler.

Three friends undermine the job-swapping in the company that exploits them and pull each other out of the swamp of capitalism (into which they will repeatedly fall).

When Andreas arrives in the remote valley in the Austrian Alps, he is only about four years old - nobody knows for sure. He grows up to become a skilled farmhand and, as a young man, joins a work crew that builds one of the first mountain railroads, bringing light and noise to the valley along with electricity. He also finds the love of his life in Marie, but their happiness is short-lived. Only many years later, when Andreas embarks on his final journey, she is with him once again. And in amazement Andreas looks back at all the years that lie behind him.

A psychiatrist and his blind girlfriend, bound by sinister interest. A school doctor, who lost more than work with her dismissal. Her brother, who will do everything for her. A desperate mother, who affectionately cares for her comatose son. Willing to try anything just to reach him again. A young man, who sells his body, because he lost his self long ago. A student, whose supposedly harmless joke connects their destinies. And a boy who vanishes and reappears.

The performances by Petra Morzé (as a mature thespian preparing for a video audition) and Marlene Hauser (as the daughter assisting her) illuminate this gently comical drama that intelligently touches on a range of issues within its brief running time.

Vienna, 1995. Jasmin, Tamara, Valentin, Senad and Roman live near the northern border of Austria. Their lives repeatedly intersect and drift apart. The characters involved are young migrants from the former Yugoslavia, Romania, Poland and Austria itself. Strangers in a strange land, they feel a sense of loss in their new, temporary environment. The five-some meet and get close to each other, hopelessly clinging to friendships and relationships with no future. They frequent cafés and train stations dreaming of a better tomorrow. Often, they just fall back on the prospect of short-term affection in yet another doomed romantic or sexual encounter. Trying hard to suppress the memories of war and alienation, they try to find moral strength and warmth through one another.

Amidst the glitz and glamour of her chart-topping career, singer Melanie Buchinger retreats to the peaceful mountains, seeking to rediscover her true self and carve out a new path for her future.
