Stories about parent-child relationships, fate, and the unknown forces that guide our steps unfold across several continents. A Japanese businessman wants to reconcile with the daughter he abandoned as a child and sets off with her on a journey to the Himalayas. Like him, a single mother in the Czech Republic receives a mysterious letter with important news. A painter and recovering alcoholic meets a beautiful woman and with her an unexpected opportunity for family life. A writer takes his friend and their inner demons on an expedition to the Indonesian jungle. A priest in New York has to deal with strange dreams, and an old man waits for his son to visit him in a remote place somewhere on the Baltic Sea coast. Each of the heroes faces a fundamental change in their lives, and their actions can influence the story of the others. Their separate journeys begin to intertwine and eventually merge into one great story of life.

Our story takes place in the 18 century, in Europe. Three clockmakers are tasked with building a precise time instrument - metaphorically speaking, the future. Inspired by Lessing's "Nathan the Wise," the three contestants symbolise three civilisations segregated by tradition, culture, and religious ideology, where they must work to solve a puzzle and the fate of all hangs in the balance as how well they can cooperate.

Virgil Oldman is a world renowned antiques expert and auctioneer. An eccentric genius, he leads a solitary life, going to extreme lengths to keep his distance from the messiness of human relationships. When appointed by the beautiful but emotionally damaged Claire to oversee the valuation and sale of her family’s priceless art collection, Virgil allows himself to form an attachment to her – and soon he is engulfed by a passion which will rock his bland existence to the core.

When Mary's husband dies from a freak accident, her estranged in-laws show up at her doorstep. She offers them a room and in doing so invites an unimaginable evil into her home.

A traditional showman's family fights against ruin and an embittered young wheelchair user who keeps the officers at the local police station in suspense with hidden threats...
