Hamburg, Germany 1934: An executioner is needed. Teetjen makes the biggest mistake of his life. Because his butcher shop is facing bankruptcy, he agrees to execute a group of political prisoners for the Nazis. Once this becomes known, Teetjen’s life falls apart.
Bandits force a cotton farmer to treat a young man who has been shot. Though the farmer has only basic medical experience he saves the boy's life. The bandits declare the farmer their doctor and he even teaches them to read and write.
This is a German version of Thornton Wilder's play, Our Town.
