Jenny is hit in the head by a soccer ball. When she comes to, the clock has turned back exactly 32 years! It is June 21, 1974, the year of the football World Cup, one day before the football match between the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR. Jenny experiences two turbulent days at the side of her future parents - in both parts of Germany.
They used to make music together in the GDR and were best friends. Then one of them became famous and the other was arrested. Decades later, the latter wants justice and accuses his successful colleague of spying on him and betraying his escape plans to the Stasi. The dramatic night-time conversation ends disastrously. After a concert, successful pop singer Marco Hoffmann's past catches up with him: his ex-bandmate Wolle wants to talk to him. The two had a rock band in the GDR - but while Marco was making a career for himself, Wolle ended up in prison after a failed escape attempt. Even after being ransomed to the West and the collapse of the GDR, Wolle couldn't get a leg on the ground. He suspected Marco of having spied on him as an IM. Wolle believes he has found clear evidence in his Stasi file. But Marco denies everything.
Edgar Wurlitzer is on his way home when a woman suddenly jumps in front of his car. He quickly drives on and enlists the help of his friend Werner for a conclusive alibi. However, before they can arrange the alibi, the police are already at the door. Soon Edgar finds out that he has run over and killed his own wife.
Erich Kasulke and Rudolf Portmann are comedian stars of the former GDR. When the Wall falls, so does their success. Portmann becomes a successful businessman, while Kasulke tries to continue working on the comedy circuit - without success. When his wife also cheats on him, he decides to start a new life in Berlin. There he quickly meets his old friend Portmann, who has built up a huge company. He offers him a job. But Erich puts the entire company in danger...

Rainer has a miserable life. He works as a pizza delivery guy in a small eastern german town. Unhappy with his situation and apparently short on money he's also struggeling with the dementia of his mother, who he cares for. Soon he can't take it anymore having anything accomplished in his life. With his mother in a home and a self-made bomb in the back of his delivery scooter he's heading north to Berlin. The road trip begins.
