A brown bear in the wild causes a sensation as a border crosser between Tyrol and Bavaria. Because Master Petz snatches many a lamb, repeatedly plunders beehives and prefers to visit garden inns to feast on the food and drink (including a pint) of the escaped guests, the alarmed people demand that the beast be shot down. After some initial bickering, this unpopular decision is also accepted at a political level, with Bavarians and Tyroleans alike hoping that the execution will be carried out by their neighbor.
The son of a farmer is bathed in his blood in front of an isolated mountain hut. There is no record of the attacker. Two investigators disappear without a trace. Years later, policeman Brenner sets out to find his colleagues.

After earlier hostility, Halfried Seelig is now widely recognized for what she does. Her daughter Marion is trying to put down roots again in her former home after separating from her husband Thomas. It is not made easy for her, especially not by her adolescent daughter Laura.

Meanwhile, there is a crisis in the marriage of Halfried's daughter Marion. On her wedding day, Marion leaves her husband, fetches her daughter Laura from boarding school and moves with her to her parents in Tyrol. There she wants to take over her father's surgery after his retirement and finally work as a doctor again. At first she is not accepted by the population, Laura also does not find her way in the new environment, Marion in turn resolutely rejects her mother's methods. It also worries Marion that her daughter appears to have inherited Halfried's abilities......
