Ten years old Cemil runs away from his stepfather who tortures him and his mother and ends up in Istanbul. Veli Firat Tanis, the leader of a gang which Cemil takes refuge in Haydarpasa, tries to send him back to his home by putting his pocket money. While the gang gather money for Cemil, they, at the same time, suffer from harsh living conditions. In the mean time Cemil's mother Münevver comes to Istanbul in the hope of finding her son.

During the years when World War I began to turn the Ottoman Empire's territories into a war zone, the pain of a great love story that unfolded in southeastern Anatolia and present-day Syria burned as fiercely as the war itself in the hearts of those involved. Oğuz is a kind-hearted, young, university-educated, unemployed young man. He is madly in love with Naz, whom he has been with for three years, and is disturbed by the interest shown in the young woman by her flirtatious boss, Alper. Two marginalized characters begin to discuss the unconventional nature of the relationship that develops between them as the story progresses.
