1984, Sverdlovsk, USSR. A shy freshman, an entrepreneur, a poet and two charming it-girls navigate life in a student dorm, sharing their griefs and joys, all for one and one for all. Suddenly a horrible accident blows up the life of the dorm when a female student commits suicide. The dorm is a miniature model of the world that encapsulates the full range of human passions, acts of bravery and cowardice, aspirations for virtue and failures, of love, friendship and betrayal.

What is to be a child to whom parents ask the same question every day: whom does he love more? Mom or dad? What should mom do if she madly loves her son, but circumstances force him to take the child away from his father? What should be done to dad if his son is taken to America forever, and he cannot imagine his life without him? This is a story of choice. When deciding for a child, a parent often does as he is comfortable with. The child agrees, afraid to hurt the parent, but time will pass, he will mature and at some point he will decide for himself. Only the parent from this will be much more painful.

Lisa is going through a divorce: her husband found a younger woman and left her with two preschool-age boys. Just when things begin to settle down after the breakup, Lisa receives a strange call from a woman that calls herself her aunt, despite Lisa's growing up in an orphanage and never knowing her relatives. The woman tells Lisa that her bloodline is under a curse that kills all of its offspring. The only way to escape the curse is to abandon the children. Lisa thinks it's a conspiracy her ex-husband planned to get full custody, so she throws the woman out.

The main character of the film, Lieutenant Yuri Nikitin, despite his young age, is appointed commandant of the small town of Jericho on the Elbe. At the same time, Nikitin must take on quite serious responsibilities for improving life in the town. The four—storey building is the commandant's office of Jericho. The house used to belong to Hans Lemke, the owner of a pig farm, bakery and cheese factory. The townspeople think Lemke is dead, but he's alive. He hides in a tunnel and watches everything that happens in the town through the optical sight of a sniper rifle, especially the young officer who has settled in his house.

1993 - the story of one family suddenly turns out to be the history of the whole country. The relationship of painfully and inextricably linked husband and wife, emergency workers, and the growing up of their daughter against the backdrop of global change.

Yekaterinburg of the 90s. A company of young poets, including the most talented — a junior researcher at the Institute of Geophysics Boris Ryzhy, wanders through the cold and dangerous streets of the city from party to party. Seventeen-year-old Artyom is invisible in the family and a rebel in the technical school. He has a best friend, Kostya, and they do all the provocations and tricks together. When the management of the technical school compiles an unofficial list of dangerous teenagers - "explosives", Kostya, by pure chance, falls into the first place, which makes him popular among other students. Kostya revels in interest in himself - and betrays his friend, convincing his classmates that he, Kostya, is the main and only inspirer of all their antics. Then Artyom decides to prove who the “number one bomber” is really here. But on his way, a girl, Kira, unexpectedly appears, who is able to influence his dangerous plan.

Famous musician Nikita Prozorov is kidnapped in a house in the center of Moscow. Investigator Ivanov finds out that the abduction was staged, and Nikita's mother, Renata, a well-known TV producer, is involved in this. Only one thing is known for sure that Nikita was taken to the clinic in an unconscious state for experimental treatment on computer psychocorrection of personality. To understand the reasons and deep motives of Renata's act, the investigator will have to piece together the history of the complex relationship between mother and son and answer the main question: did Renata kill her son or save his life?
