Johannes, a young Ingrian Finn, grows up in Soviet Estonia with his liberal student mother and pro-Soviet grandmother. The boy's life is revolutionized when he experiences first love and his mother decides to leave for Finland.

While searching for his missing dog, Meelis stumbles upon a village where a strange crime has taken place. As he struggles to piece together what has happened, suspicions begin to arise. Telling good from evil seems nearly impossible when the truth is hopelessly lost.
