When Ruth's husband dies in New York, in 2000, she imposes strict Jewish mourning, which puzzles her children. Posing as a journalist investigating intermarriage, Hannah interviews Lena who tells the story of a week in 1943 when the Jewish husbands of Aryan women were detained in a building on Rosenstrasse. The women gather daily for word of their husbands. The film goes back and forth to tell Ruth and Lena's story. How will it affect Hannah?

This is a movie about a group of young people with all sorts of problems. They all live in some old house with a number of volunteers helping them to get back on track. The young people yell and scream a lot and destroy about every object you get to see in the film. At one point they start singing happily and running down a railway station together, but soon after that, the destruction and name calling commences again until basically nothing of the house is left.
