Joan, a sullen old peasant tired of being robbed, decides to join the peasant patrol that watches over the fields. His son Pepe, who has just returned from the city, accompanies him. During the nightly patrol Joan and Pepe come across a thief.
Llorenç and Ernest are two great lifelong friends. The two decided long ago that they wanted to be actors, but have had uneven careers. While Llorenç has been popular with all of them for a long time and has seen his fame grow (as did his ego) until he became a true diva of the Catalan theater, Ernest has not finished achieving it.
Adrià is a boy who lives from village to village with his older brother and his older brother's girlfriend. He is mute, can't stand enclosed spaces, and finds it hard to keep his attention when spoken to. Adrià has a secret: on full moon nights, he can't sleep and wanders the streets.
1943. Franco has blocked the path of the Jews fleeing Nazi oppression over the Pyrenees mountains. At the border crossing in a small village, Manel Grau, a civil servant with a Republican past, decides to go against the orders of his superiors and aid the refugees across the border, with the help of Juliana, a fellow inhabitant of the village, and Jérome a French smuggler. Between them, they will start a crusade to help as many Jews as they possibly can. It is then that Manel will find himself embroiled in a dangerous odyssey. One that will awaken in him and his wife, Mercè, old ghosts of the still-recent Spanish Civil War
