This comedic musical tells the story of Gabi, a young hairdresser from the Baltic coast who desperately wants to be a jockey. One day, she packs her bags, drives to Hoppegarten, and is soundly rejected by the head coach. Gabi doesn't want to give up, and in order to at least have a roof over her head, she rushes into a marriage with the seemingly nice Freddie. However, this marriage soon proves to be her second rejection, as Freddie openly dislikes the fact that she wants to be a jockey.

In 1896 the Berlin noble doctor Dr. Wilhelm Holtfreter takes over his well-to-do wife Mathilde and takes over the country doctor's office in the Prussian district of Westprignitz from the late Dr. Tochtenhagen. His decision was met with incomprehension everywhere.

In a small Saxon town after the Second World War, the former chimney sweep Toni tries to survive on the black market and meets the pusher Ginfizz. Together they initially trade in flour before embarking on a riskier plan: they are to rescue machines from Soviet expropriation for the mill owner Hartmann by transporting them in hidden trucks. In the process, they become entangled in various adventures, from rescuing orphans to transporting pigs, while being constantly pursued by the young policewoman Gisela, who wavers between her professional duty and her attraction to Toni. After Ginfizz is caught and the others remain temporarily free, they help to get the mill up and running again to avert a food shortage.

The two computer specialists Frank and Kamminke are not the type of citizens the party likes. Thus they are sent to the landscape where they still find enough stuff to do: They repair the software of a western type factory which is currently not working.

In the village of Medela, the village elder Fritz Schmal is buried with great sympathy. Beforehand, Till goes with his father to his property to check on the stork on its new nest. When they join the funeral procession afterwards, the stork has just returned from Africa and joins her husband on the nest. So it comes as Grandad Schmal had predicted. The following flashback shows how it all began.

For her husband, who has become famous as an actor, Angelika is the go-to girl. For years, she stands in his shadow. The only things they do together are premiere parties and receptions. Angelika, who is becoming increasingly frustrated, finally wants a satisfying occupation with which she can gain recognition. But this is where the problems really begin for the couple.

Laboratory technician Jutta and factory worker Peter have been a couple since the summer and are enjoying their time together. One day, Jutta realizes that she might be pregnant. The doctor doesn't want to make a preliminary diagnosis until Monday - and today is Friday. The weekend is a tough test for Jutta. How should she decide - for or against the child, should she get married, should she have an abortion? The encounters with Peter, her parents, her friend with the twins and her colleagues don't make it any easier. In the end, Jutta and Peter have to decide on their own.

A lost box is a strange one that nobody knows. It appears in the middle of an apartment exchange involving the Ilse and Rudi Karschek family and another couple. Since no one can be assigned to this box, it is opened; the contents: the portrait of an attractive girl who dedicated it to "her" Rudi. Rudi, however, is quite sure that this must be a misunderstanding. But then his wife Ilse receives a phone call in their new apartment that is not at all misleading, which brings the situation in the Karschek family to a head. In this respect, the whole affair becomes a total "mess".

Katrin and Dieter really want a new car, but don't have enough money. They therefore decide to host Aunt Mathilde's 60th birthday party and invite all their relatives, including those they haven't been in contact with for years. Because some of them are said to be swimming in money. So Katrin and Dieter hope for some support, but some of it turns out to be just a sham.
