The "corn king" usually sponsors dreamy girls who want to become a miss in any contest. One of them doesn't agree with her sponsor's "donjuanesque" tactics and abandons everything to return to her former fiancé.

Cacareco is a clumsy worker at a dry cleaners who constantly causes losses for his boss, the Portuguese Rebuçado. One day, he receives a package from his relatives in the north: Maria do Socorro, his goddaughter. Pursuing his dream of working in television, Socorro ends up involving Cacareco in numerous disputes, including fights, robberies, and gambling in an underground casino.

Monica, a naive schoolgirl from a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, meets Virginia, a former neighbor, now living in Copacabana. Influenced by her, she decides to take on a double life: in the morning she is the suburban girl, in the afternoon she attends a brothel in the South Zone. One day she meets Flávio, a friend and eventual lover of Virginia. Flávio falls in love with the purity of Monica and wants to drive away her friends, for considering Virginia a bad company for her beloved.

As soon as Norma decides to get married, Sonia finds herself with only one option: to end her successful partnership with her friend who is about to get engaged. Saddened by the loss of the prestige she had earned over the years working alongside Norma, Sonia tries hard to raise any amount of money she can to put together a new musical number for herself.
