Kitsos from Gastouni comes to Athens and gets a job at the souvlaki restaurant owned by Dimos from Roumeli. He falls in love with his boss's daughter, Zeta, but she does not reciprocate his feelings. After a heated argument with Dimos, he quits and leaves. He opens his own souvlaki restaurant and is very successful. His terrified competitors try everything they can to learn his secret and even go so far as to recruit the beautiful Suzy to seduce him.

The mission is successful, but the Germans' retaliation is terrible. They discover, arrest, and execute all members of the resistance group. They kill Martha and Fritz. Andreas leaves to continue the resistance in the Middle East.
Young Nikos leaves Athens for Thessaloniki, where he hopes to become a successful singer. However, he leaves behind his beloved Mary and in Thessaloniki he meets another woman, whom he marries. Mary makes an unsuccessful attempt at suicide. Nikos' wife loses her life in a car accident, and life brings the couple back together again.
