Inspired by the life of Toluca-born boxer Ernesto Barrera, who became the national flyweight champion in 1960. It portrays the meteoric career, rapid rise, and tragic downfall of the fighter, from his impoverished childhood and early days in boxing to his death in 1983, brought about by alcoholism.
Two high school students in Toluca glimpse the challenges and hard road of awakening to adulthood. Matilde wants to be a dentist and Yolanda longs to be a singer. Both face parental authority, experience the transition from adolescence to womanhood, and share the awakening of sexuality, the challenge to authority, the discovery of drugs, and political awareness.
