As the sun sets over an Okinawan beach, penniless middle-aged Taiwanese priest Ching-wen meet Shizuko, a young Japanese woman gazing at the ocean. Drawn by her yearning for a love built on romance rather than convenience, Shizuko defies her parents’ wishes to marry into wealth and boldly pursues a relationship with Ching-wen. However, their May-December romance faces challenges beyond age, identity, and societal judgment. Beneath the surface lies a deeper obstacle rooted in Ching-wen’s past. On the beach where love both begins and ends, Shizuko and Ching-wen must confront the weight of history and personal trauma. Bun-de (Wen-de in Mandarin, played by Shi Jun/Shih Chun) is a shy young man. Aggressively courted by all the girls in the neighbourhood, he only has eyes for the pretty and mischievous Gui-kia (Jin Mei/Chin Mei). She finds every means possible to meet up with her boyfriend, although he is closely watched over by a very protective father, A-Gao. When the parents finally agree on the wedding, they realise that they used to be in love. Accusing each other of betrayal, they refuse to allow their children to marry. Bunde and Gui-kia decide to elope.

Wang Chieh is a young man who's in love with a girl, Yang Wan-ru. However, Yang tells her friend, Tang Hwa, that she's fond of another boy, Kang Ping. Tang Hwa host a party at her place and announces to everyone there that she's engaged to Kang Ping. Yang is heartbroken and later agrees to marry Wang if he's able to pay for her mother's medical bills. He fulfilled his promise and they end up marrying each other. Years later, Wang gets himself into trouble with drugs and goes to jail. Yang returns to her hometown and finds out that Tang Hwa is married but not to Kang Ping. Yang starts an affair with Kang but realizes that he's just a womanizer. Yang returns home and wait for her husband to be released from prison.

The Lin family, a Taiwanese shipping dynasty in Okinawa, is thrown into turmoil when the second son, Hung-hai, defies his father’s wishes by rejecting an arranged marriage with TV star Yoshiko and falling in love with Hsiu-ling, the daughter of their rival. As generational animosities and cruel twists of fate unravel, Hung-hai spirals into bitterness and alcoholism. Can these star-crossed lovers break free from the bonds of family conflict and rewrite their destinies?
