Kai (Jack Yao), who works at his parent's noodle shop by day and spends his nights in a bookstore to learn French, decides to go to Paris after his girlfriend, who recently left for Paris, dumps him by phone. Then the local neighborhood mafia boss offers Kai a free plane ticket to Paris if he takes a mysterious package with him.

The story concerns a male youth named Ah Chung (or Diong-ah in the Taiwanese dialect) who graduates from high school and descends into a maelstrom of personal, familial, and communal conflicts. Ah Chung is going through the liminal stage of finding his place and aim in life. He is sent by his mother to a boot camp, training as one of the Eight Generals. This is a job in performing as a god in Taiwanese popular rituals and Ah Chung's mother believes it can bring spiritual and social goodwill to the much-troubled family: Financially strained mother who is a performer of "low-brow" entertainment, a kid brother who is somewhat retarded, a half-sister who is raped by his alcoholic father, and Ah Chung's listlessness which is easily sucked in by the local gang rivalry...

Man-Li always lives in the normal track as everybody considers. After graduating from school to society, she keeps each job with caution and fear. Unless she finds a new job, she won’t quit the current one easily. This time is quite different. She resigned and had no idea what to do next. She just thought to make a change of her lifestyle. However, what will it look like? She doesn’t know either. Her boyfriend proposed the thought of getting married. She doesn’t feel like working but it doesn’t necessarily mean that she has to choose marriage. All of this is because of the space she longs for. On the contrary, she doesn’t know what to do. Only she can do is in a daze!Waves kept patting the seashore of the night dream……a feeling was gradually brewed, swelled, unlimitedly developed and grew in strength! Infused with a few moments of pathos, this off-beat comedy centers on a trio of Taiwanese outcasts who go looking for love.

In a dilapidated apartment, lives intertwine: a lonely, voyeuristic landlady, college student Wan Li, and a provocatively dressed female tenant. Wan Li rents the place for privacy with his ambivalent girlfriend, who later falls for his visiting junior. Ironically, while kissing her, the junior fantasizes about Wan Li himself—sparking a tangled web of unspoken desire and fractured loyalties.
