In Real Life is about such moments, where lives are drastically changed. As a multi-plot drama, created out of three years of acting improvisations, In Real Life follows three story threads with characters who come together by internet dating and by their persistent search for some kind of meaning in life between love and sheer survival.

William's father is dead and his mother is mentally ill, so he lives with his uncle Nils. Nils is on early retirement, making money by buying things cheap and selling them high. He has also accumulated a large debt and city's gangsters are on him, demanding that he pays it full. William sets out to pay off the debt of his uncle - and perhaps his courage might impress Viola too, a girl from his class.

7-year-old Anna is having trouble sleeping at night. She accidentally left her favourite doll, Sophie, at her family's holiday home, and Anna's parents won't drive all the way to the house to retrieve the doll. Just as Anna is wondering if Sophie feels lonely, she suddenly hears a strange sound. Anna is visited by a small yellow aeroplane named Zanzibar along with its crew: Captain Bimse and the co-pilot Goggeletten. With her trusted teddy bear Mr. Johnson in tow, Anna embarks on a magical rescue mission with Captain Bimse and Goggeletten to save Sophie.

One day, Ronja notices that she is being followed by an unknown woman. The experience sparks her interest, and she is instantly drawn towards the mystery surrounding the stranger and her actions. Being watched so closely cannot but make one feel special. To her regret, she is not the only one being followed by the woman.

Viktoria is an odd and extremely self-disciplined researcher in the field of suicide. She is invited to a psychiatric ward to treat the suicidal patient Jenny. Through intimate night conversations, they form a tight bond. Viktoria slowly opens up to experience closeness with another person for the first time in her life, but the closer the two women get, the more it becomes clear that something is not as it seems.
