The author Tom Berger has written a book that is very prejudiced against women. The local chapter of Women's League starts a campaign against him.

The tailor Tosse is ordered to return to his old regiment to practice what he learned many years ago. But he asks his assistant Loffe to go there instead of himself. Everything is fine until Loffe gets the same order - at the same regiment. When Tosse comes to the regiment, it becomes a case of mistaken identity. On a tourist trip abroad the passengers on the coach witness an assassination attempt on the President Hurkas. One of the tourists has evidence against the perpetrators, and is killed when the coach reaches Sweden. Another passenger observes how one of the perpetrators is picked up by a yellow car. She is kidnapped and locked up in a mental hospital.

A young couple, penniless, break into a summer cottage; the owner offers to rent to them but he has ulterior motives. By living together, the lovers must face their pasts and contend with the meddling neighbors and authorities.

Fridolf's daughter becomes pregnant and Fridolf and Selma become strongly involved in this.
