This feature film describes the labor dispute of a piecework crew in a large German industrial company and its workforce against the background of the "September strikes" in Germany.
In 1978, Peter Przygodda, editor of Wim Wenders‘ films, Reinhard Hauff and Hans W. Geissendörfer, together with his Brazilian colleague Braulio Tavares Neto and Martin Schäfer at the camera, filmed the long-distance truck drivers on their journeys with heavy goods vehicles and thus obtained first-hand information. In the course of the trucker film wave ('Convoy') of the late 70s, his film was released in cinemas. Trucker life appears as a social phenomenon far removed from the romance and hero myths surrounding the adventure of the highway.
When Edith Howland's husband abandons her for a younger woman, leaving her with their alcoholic son and his senile uncle, she begins recording details of an imaginary, much more successful life where she has friends and grandchildren. However, this diversion soon grows unhealthy when she becomes slowly convinced that the fantasies are real.

Worried about her missing daughter Fanny, Munich civil servant Lisbeth travels to Italy in a hurry. She is relieved to discover that the young student is safe and sound but, to her mother's horror, is about to marry the law student Luca, whom Fanny has only known for six weeks. The divorced Lisbeth is extremely skeptical, and Luca's wealthy mother Carla is also ringing alarm bells. Both women want to use their motherly power to prevent their children's flash wedding.
