Losing his father at a very young age, Bekir lives with his mother Rabia and grandfather İlyas, who jointly run a haberdashery store. When İlyas passes away, to spare him grief young Bekir is told that “his beloved grandfather has gone to the moon and become Grandpa Moon.”

Sent away by his exasperated family to work for the village coffeehouse owner Seyfi in Istanbul, the brave, compassionate, and justice-driven young hero is drawn into the city’s underworld of toughs.

In the heart of Istanbul's prison, Zakir controls the letters prisoners receive. His average day is spent between the censorship office, his colleagues and his evening writing class.
