In this feature-length documentary film essay, archival footage weaves together childhood memories from once-opposing sides on the Gorizia border to rethink—80 years after WWII, and amid renewed calls for rearmament—the meaning of home and belonging.

On December 10, 2009, the second memory-sharing campaign from the series Cross-border memory-gathering campaigns: Ordinacija spomina / Corsia dei ricordi was organized in the house of the former border crossing between Nova Gorica and Gorizia. Citizens of both cities were invited to select a few photos taken in this border area from their home albums and share their memories of a frozen moment.
In December 2013, the fourth memorial service, entitled Found Portraits, was held at the former border crossing between Nova Gorica and Gorizia. Citizens of both Goricas were invited to select photographs of unknown fellow citizens and talk about their memories of them.
The documentary video is the result of the fifth memorial service, carried out in 2015 as part of a multi-year public memory collection project at the former border crossing between Nova Gorica and Gorizia. In the premises of the railway station in Nova Gorica, we collected memories and photographs of buildings in Nova Gorica and Gorizia that we pass by without knowing their stories and fates. Citizens of both Gorizias were invited to select photographs of the buildings in their albums and talk about their stories.

Conversations with some Gorizia artists from both sides of the border who participated in two retrospective art exhibitions in Gorizia and Nova Gorica in the year the border was opened. We were interested in what a crossing point means, who or what determines national and cultural identity, and how to live and create without borders.
