Carl Ludwig works at a small publishing house, a desk job that bores him to death. He constantly finds himself daydreaming about being a nude photographer or a detective.
"Anyway: the art, the art" follows renowned director Stan's theatre group, who are putting together a play uncovering the dark side of the pharmaceutical industry. Stan hires a psychotherapist Dr Franz. She is supposed to support Stan's actors and ensure that the production runs smoothly. Stan notices that she gets the team and the actors hooked on the drug Zyprecs in an effort to delude them into painting the pharmaceutical industry in a good light. The actors gradually begin to suffer a nervous breakdown from the side effects of the medication, but the premiere is getting closer and closer. As a medical consultant, Dr Franz intervenes ever more deeply in the production process and artistic work.
A troubled man is forced to repeat a grim task in 1940's Czechoslovakia. Over time, he starts to fail his task and work on his grotesque secret instead. The fear of his secret being discovered slowly becomes unbearable.
