Lia leads a normal life. She goes to work and takes care of her daughter. While visiting her parents she is reminded that her life is not that normal after all. Several years ago she had a severe car accident leaving half her face scarred. Especially her anxious mother makes Lia feel insecure again and her despair leads to an emotional outburst.

The reality the conscientious objector Roman is confrontend with at an old-age home is something he has previously been spared: suffering, frailty, death. He has to take care of "General" Kulat, an old Wehrmacht officer, a fanatic militarist. Their confrontation becomes war.
